RESEARCH FELLOW
Ailsa Naismith
Ailsa joined the DASL team in August 2024 after 7 years working on the active volcanoes in Guatemala at the University of Bristol. She trained as a geologist and is fascinated by both the physical processes of volcanic activity that produce hazards, and how different people live with and manage the risks associated with persistent explosive volcanic activity. In Guatemala and now Indonesia Ailsa work with multiple stakeholders including local people and operational scientists. Her main purpose is to advance knowledge on the dynamics and potential impacts of hazardous volcanic flows and to work with partners in operational science & risk management to co-develop strategies to mitigate said impacts..
